The capital's education system is under growing strain caused by the influx of students during the school year. According to data announced at a meeting between President Sadyr Japarov and residents of the Alamudun district, 12,500 students from the regions and from abroad arrived in Bishkek this year.
Insufficient infrastructure for a growing number of pupils
The Minister of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva, noted that the pace of construction of educational institutions cannot keep up with the growth of the child population. As a result, Bishkek needs about 50 additional schools to be built.
Load and construction indicators
As an illustration of the shortage of places, the minister cited the Ak-Ordo residential area: its local school, designed for 750 pupils, needs about 4,500 places. According to her, there are currently only 40 schools operating in three shifts in Bishkek, Osh and Manas.
