Kyrgyzstan became a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council following elections held on June 3, 2026. This status allows the country to take part in discussing and adopting decisions concerning global peace and security.

New Powers on the UN Security Council

What Changes for the Country

It is important to note that election to the UN Security Council does not mean automatic changes in the domestic life of citizens. Kyrgyzstan's powers on the Security Council include taking part in negotiations, submitting draft resolutions and amendments, and voting. At the same time, the veto right, which is held only by the permanent members (China, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and France), is not granted to Kyrgyzstan.

Work of the Mission to the UN

The work of Kyrgyzstan's mission to the UN in New York will include participation in closed consultations and meetings, as well as work on the texts of resolutions, which are documents containing recommendations and decisions of the Council.
