A meeting was held in Bishkek between Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration Almaz Imangaziev and UN Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of ESCAP Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana. The dialogue touched on issues concerning the situation of older citizens and improving their social security system.
Focus on active ageing and employment
Particular attention at the meeting was given to the ministry's initiative aimed at creating an Active Ageing Center in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, the parties exchanged views on international experience in supporting older people.
Areas of cooperation discussed
In addition to social security issues, the participants discussed prospects for joint work in several key areas. These include: promoting youth employment, the employment of socially vulnerable groups, as well as vocational training and human capital development.
Following the meeting, the parties noted a mutual desire to strengthen cooperation and move toward practical work on the identified areas.
