Talantbek Tolobekov, Director of the Cinema Department, announced the change in the procedure for financing film projects in Kyrgyzstan. The introduction of the new selection system is aimed at ensuring transparency and prioritizing quality scripts.

How the new film project financing system works

Previously, the project review process was fragmented: Kyrgyzfilm, Kyrgyzserial and the Cinema Department reviewed materials separately, which sometimes led to delays and misunderstandings.

Under the new scheme, all projects go through a single vetting procedure. First, the script undergoes an editorial review at Kyrgyzfilm, after which it is submitted to the department's 12-member expert commission for consideration.

Changes in production volumes and directions

The new procedure has already led to growth in production volumes. Whereas 2–3 feature films were previously made each year, production of 14 feature films has begun this year.

In addition, whereas Kyrgyzfilm previously focused mainly on auteur and festival films, commercial projects have also begun to be implemented this year.
