If you receive a notice from a court, you must keep it and be sure to verify all the information through the office of the court that sent it. When receiving such messages, it is essential to be careful with personal data.
Important rules for handling notices
An electronic notice may have legal effect, and the absence of a paper summons does not in itself mean that the summons can be ignored. When contacting the court, it is recommended to provide a current phone number and email address, and if they change, to inform the court hearing the case immediately.
- Do not share passwords, SMS codes or banking details with the sender.
- Check not only incoming messages but also the "Spam" folder.
Mechanisms and timing for receiving notifications
First-instance courts currently already use SMS and email to send notifications. The Supreme Court reported that this mechanism has been operating through the automated information system "Sud" since June 2026. A message received this way must contain information about the date, time and place of the hearing, and a repeat reminder is provided for the day before.
Changes in legislation
Law No. 148 of October 6, 2026 enters into force on November 1, 2026 and provides for the preferential use of a guaranteed message delivery service for procedural notifications. This service must ensure that both the sending and the receipt of the message are recorded.
It should be noted that the entry into force of the law and the availability of the new service to the recipient are separate matters. The procedure for processing, sending, delivering and recording documents must be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers. The law itself does not make it possible to find out which app or personal account must be used to open the document.
How to clarify the procedure for receiving a document
If there are doubts about the procedure for receiving a document, this channel must be clarified directly with the court.
