Amid recent changes concerning the flag, anthem and the names of some Bishkek streets, speculation appeared online that the authorities might have changed the name of the country's main concert institution. These rumors arose after a host at an official Ministry of Culture event marking Culture Workers' Day mistakenly called the Toktogul Satylganov Philharmonic the Kalya Moldobasanov Kyrgyz National Philharmonic.
Status of the Philharmonic's name
Ministry of Culture representatives explained that the Philharmonic was not renamed. The institution still bears the name of akyn Toktogul Satylganov.
Aftermath of the incident
Disciplinary measures were taken against the employee who made the error in mentioning the name, for improper performance of official duties in organizing and holding the event.
Context
Recall that Toktogul Satylganov was a people's akyn-democrat, singer and komuz player. The Ministry of Culture was founded on May 12, 2008.
