In Kyrgyzstan, small HPPs together supply 150 MW of electrical capacity to the power system. This became known during a visit by media representatives to the small HPP "Tuyuk", located in the Ysyk-Ata district of Chui region.

Details of the small HPP "Tuyuk" project

The small HPP "Tuyuk" was built by Chui-Rus-Gidro LLC. According to the information, construction of this plant began in early 2025 and was officially completed on August 31 of this year, by Independence Day.

7.5HPP capacity
5.5length of the diversion canal (km)
10transmission line voltage to the substation (kV)
35transmission line voltage from the substation (kV)

The project used equipment from the Austrian company Global Hydro. In addition, a diversion canal 5.5 kilometers long was built, as well as power transmission lines: one with a voltage of 10 kV to the substation (5.5 km) and a second with a voltage of 35 kV from the substation to the connection point with the national grid (11.5 km).

Prospects for the development of green energy

Emilbek Orozbaev, director of the state institution "Green Energy Fund", reported on plans to build a second cascade of the facility and on measures being taken by the state to support investors.

A distinctive feature of the "Tuyuk" project was noted as the fact that during its operation the riverbed does not change, and the water continues to flow through the HPP just as it does at the source.

Context

Information on the development of small HPPs and the energy sector was provided by media representatives as part of the "Open Cabinet: Zone of Responsibility" project.
