Under the Open Cabinet project, plans for developing water resources in Kemin became known. Emilbek Orozbaev, director of the Green Energy Fund, reported on preparations to build small hydropower plants on the Chon-Kemin river.
Project details and development prospects
According to the information, cooperation with a Japanese company is under way on this project. The company plans to carry out work on a 19-hectare plot in the Kemin district, and bilateral documents on the project's implementation have already been signed.
Cascade power generation from water resources is planned. If the relevant water flow is maintained, there is a possibility of increasing the number of stations to four or five.
Advantages of small hydropower plants
- Small hydropower plants operate around the clock and generate electricity depending on the water flow
- Output from solar and wind power plants depends on the weather and natural conditions; for example, solar plants do not generate electricity at night
According to the fund's director, when building small hydropower plants, attention is paid to conserving water resources and complying with environmental requirements; in particular, the water entering a hydropower plant must be returned in a preserved state.
General trends in the energy sector
Work on roughly 80 small hydropower plants is currently under way across the country. Emilbek Orozbaev, director of the Green Energy Fund, noted that the focus is on developing small hydropower plants specifically.
