Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with CNN Türk that he is counting on the assistance of Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan in arranging a meeting with Vladimir Putin. According to the Ukrainian president, since Erdogan maintains contacts with the Russian leader, Kyiv favors holding a possible meeting specifically on Turkish territory.
Positions of the parties and readiness for talks
The Ukrainian side called Ankara a potential "pragmatic and realistic mediator" in the settlement process. At the same time, Turkey confirmed its readiness to host talks on Ukraine, whether at the technical level or with the participation of heads of state. This signal was conveyed to Washington, according to information received from a source in the Turkish government who spoke to RIA Novosti.
Positions of Russia and the United States
The initiative, according to the source, is linked to U.S. diplomatic efforts to settle the Ukrainian conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin has already said that Moscow is ready to resume talks on a Ukrainian settlement in a trilateral format. The Russian leader stressed that the discussion must address the formation of a European security architecture, as well as security guarantees for Russia and Ukraine after final peace agreements are concluded.
Turkey, for its part, is ready to host the talks, depending on their format and the level of the participants.
