According to oncologist Azamat Kylchykbaev, the chances of full recovery when breast cancer is detected at the first and second stages can reach 98 percent.
How survival rates change depending on stage
However, the specialist noted that at the third and fourth stages the rates worsen significantly. On average, 10-year survival in these cases ranges from 40 to 60 percent.
Diagnostic procedure and treatment methods
When tumors are detected by ultrasound or mammography, medical staff usually send biomaterial for a biopsy. This test makes it possible to determine whether the tumor is benign or malignant.
- If the cancer diagnosis is confirmed, doctors prescribe additional tests to adjust treatment.
- In the case of breast cancer, three main methods are used: chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery.
- Surgical intervention may include removal of the breast.
Prevention recommendations
Specialists recommend preventive mammography for all women aged 40 to 75 inclusive once every two years.
After reviewing the screening results, medical staff make an appropriate decision based on the data obtained.
