Under the legislative innovation, 1% of the profit received from small hydropower plants will now be transferred to local self-governments. This was announced by Kanat Askeyev, Deputy General Director of the open joint-stock company Chakan HPP.
How this will affect local communities and hydropower plant construction
According to Kanat Askeyev, this provision serves as an incentive for local communities. In addition, during construction, regardless of who the investor is, priority in employment will be given to local residents, including narrowly specialized specialists such as energy workers and hydraulic engineers.
- The quality of electricity supply will improve, since generation will be located closer to consumers, which minimizes losses.
- Investors are interested in building hydropower plants, and most citizens support this initiative.
Currently, more than one hundred industrial facilities are commissioned in the country each year, and it is not possible to supply them with electricity on their own.
