Myktybek Kalandarov, head of the Livestock and Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, reported that 232 farms in the country hold breeding status. An order is expected soon to create a commission that will annually monitor breeding farms and review applications for this status.
Conditions for obtaining breeding status and the rights of farms
Specific requirements, depending on the type of livestock farming, exist to confirm the status. For example, in sheep farming it is necessary to have at least 200 ewes of one breed, and for the Arashan breed — at least 100 ewes. In cattle farming, a herd of at least 30 cows is required, and in horse breeding — one herd consisting of 20 mares and two stallions.
In addition to livestock requirements, legal registration, the provision of indicators for the last three years and the availability of breeding documentation for each animal are also mandatory for obtaining the status.
Obligations of breeding farms
Breeding farms receive land from the state fund without an auction or tender. However, in return they bear obligations: every year they must sell to the public at least 15% of their breeding stock.
Applications for the status are submitted through district agricultural development departments.
