The increasing economic activity and the commissioning of new industrial facilities are driving up the demand for electricity in Kyrgyzstan. According to Emilbek Orozbayev, the Director of the Green Energy Fund under the Cabinet of Ministers, the country is actively introducing new generating capacities to meet this growing need.
Key Projects to Bridge the Energy Gap
The primary goal is to eliminate the internal deficit entirely through the commissioning of new generating units. Several large-scale energy projects are currently in progress to achieve this objective.
- Construction of the Kazarma HPP cascade with a total capacity of 912 MW.
- Planning for the construction of the Kara-Kechinsk TPP with a capacity of 1200 MW.
- Full modernization of four hydro-generators at the Toktogul HPP, which has added 240 MW of additional capacity.
- Work continues on the Kambaratinsk HPP-1, which involves building roads leading to the station.
Electricity Deficit and New Capacities
Context
The deficit is attributed to the country's economic growth and the opening of new industrial sites, which increase electricity consumption. The current shortfall is being managed through electricity imports from neighboring countries.
