The country plans to reach a target of 4 billion kWh by 2030 to eliminate its electricity deficit. This was announced by Emilbek Orozbaev, director of the state institution "Green Energy Fund" under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Measures to Increase Energy Capacity and the Current Deficit

According to Orozbaev, the deficit is currently covered by imports from neighboring countries. At the same time, although at least 100 new production facilities are launched in the country every year, the growth of commissioned capacity does not match the pace of consumption growth.

Major Energy Projects

Several major projects are being implemented as part of plans to increase energy capacity in Kyrgyzstan. Among them are the 912 MW Kazarman HPP and the 1,200 MW Kara-Kechi TPP. In addition, after the reconstruction of four units at the Toktogul HPP, its total capacity is expected to increase by 240 MW.

  • In 2026, four solar power plants were commissioned in the country.
  • A 20 MW solar power plant is scheduled to be launched in Naryn in November.
  • A 250 MW station is under construction in Kochkor district of Naryn region, with its first 100 MW phase scheduled for commissioning in May 2027.

These measures are aimed at improving the resilience of the energy system and meeting the growing needs of the population and industry.
