On June 30, 2026, the Judicial Chamber for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan upheld the verdict against an officer accused of taking bribes from a serviceman. This decision is final, as the prosecutor's cassation appeal was rejected.
How the money extortion scheme was uncovered
According to the Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SCNS, a corrupt embezzlement of funds organized by certain officials of the Ministry of Defense was uncovered. These actions ran counter to the country's leadership's policy and harmed the interests of the Armed Forces.
The substance of the charges and the officers' actions
In particular, the deputy commander of the training battalion for work with personnel, Major M.B.M., and the commander of the 1st platoon of the 2nd company of the training battalion, Lieutenant K.A.B., organized a systematic money extortion scheme. This was done against conscripts undergoing mobilization reserve training at the "Koi-Tash" military unit.
- For illegal "privileges" — such as short-term leave, the ability to leave the unit without authorization, and the use of mobile phones — the officers demanded bribes.
- The size of the extorted bribes ranged from 1 thousand to 50 thousand som.
A criminal case was opened over the extortion under Article 342 "Taking a bribe" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. After the major and lieutenant were detained, they were placed in the SCNS pretrial detention center.
