The US military struck an anti-aircraft system in the area of Qeshm Island in southern Iran, US President Donald Trump told reporters.
Strikes on facilities and the situation in the Strait of Hormuz
According to the American leader, the military continues to carry out limited strikes on Iranian targets. Donald Trump emphasized that these attacks are aimed at disabling equipment.
"We are conducting small strikes, but they are disabling facilities. They set up a small anti-aircraft system, and we disabled it in about 15 minutes, maybe five."
Earlier, the Iranian Press TV reported a series of explosions on Qeshm Island, located in the Strait of Hormuz. The channel later reported that the air defense forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone in the area.
Conflict Context
Tensions between the US and Iran persist due to disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies passes. In late September, Tehran proposed a seven-day plan to open the strait to Washington in exchange for lifting the maritime blockade and export restrictions, but Donald Trump rejected the proposal.
Iran previously imposed shipping restrictions in the strait, requiring passage to be coordinated with local authorities. Tehran claims that the strait is under the country's full control and that maritime security is provided by the IRGC naval forces.
