The detection of antibiotic residues in honey may become an obstacle to its export abroad. This was reported at a press conference by Maksat Akhmedzhanov, a senior researcher at the laboratory of virology and biotechnology at the Duysheev Kyrgyz Research Veterinary Institute.
Causes and consequences for honey exports
According to the specialist, beekeepers turn to the institute over bee diseases, and antibiotics are sometimes used in the treatment process. Traces of these substances are then found in the finished product — honey.
Areas of the institute's work
In response to this situation, institute staff have focused their efforts on studying viral and parasitic bee diseases. The main emphasis in their work is on developing biological methods of protection.
- Applying biological approaches to the treatment and prevention of bee diseases
Thus, the detected antibiotic residues create a barrier to supplies of honey to foreign markets.
