It has become harder for drivers to keep to standard 8-hour shifts. A representative of the municipal enterprise Bishkek City Transport said it is not yet possible to switch to such a schedule because of the staff shortage.

Work regime and driver shortage

According to the information, drivers now work on a "two days on, two days off" schedule to ensure full recovery. At the same time, total working time can reach 15–16 hours, including technological breaks between trips on the route.

Monitoring and discipline at work

In the area of ensuring safety and compliance with rules, increased attention is being paid to monitoring. Cameras have been installed in 120 electric buses, allowing footage of what happens in the cabin to be transmitted online, including detection of smoking. In addition, the monitoring department receives an automatic alert if a bus is idle on the route for more than two to three minutes.

Accountability measures

The disciplinary commission of the municipal enterprise Bishkek City Transport holds sessions every Wednesday. The commission reviews drivers' violations, for which measures may be applied ranging from a reprimand or loss of bonuses to dismissal. In the event of a traffic accident caused by a driver's fault, reimbursement of vehicle repair costs is provided for.

  • The bus fleet numbers 1,565 buses.
  • Of these, about 1,250 units go out per day.
