According to the Customs Service, the illegal drugs were transported in a truck fitted with a hidden compartment. The seized items contained medicines and psychotropic substances whose circulation is restricted in Kyrgyzstan.
Circumstances of the detention and the criminal case
A criminal case has been opened over the uncovered illegal import. The Customs Service's investigative department opened the case under Article 282, "Illegal manufacture of precursors," of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Two individuals were detained as a result — Zh. B. Zh. and N. K. N. — who were subsequently placed in pretrial detention facility No. 1.
Suspected distribution scheme
Investigators believe the imported drugs may subsequently have been sold through large pharmacies in Bishkek.
