On November 6, the first meeting of the interagency working group for the development of the concept of the "Encyclopedia of the Heritage of the Kyrgyz People" took place in Bishkek. The meeting was chaired by the State Secretary of the Kyrgyz Republic, Arslan Koichiev.

Project Content and Objectives

Meeting participants—representatives of government agencies, scientists, Manas scholars, and figures in culture and art—discussed the structure and implementation mechanisms of the future publication. The project is conceived as a unified scientific system that will combine information on centuries of history, statehood, and the spiritual world of the people.

"The encyclopedia must become a work of national significance, reflecting the history, statehood, spiritual world, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, science, literature, and art of the Kyrgyz people within a single scientific system."
Arslan Koichiev, State Secretary of the Kyrgyz Republic

As part of the concept, plans are in place to provide detailed coverage of key aspects of national identity and the achievements of all regions of the country. Special attention will be given to the following areas:

  • history and statehood of the Kyrgyz people
  • the "Manas" epic and the art of Manaschi
  • the Kyrgyz language and literature
  • national music, art, and architecture
  • traditional lifestyle, crafts, and cuisine
  • national sports and prominent personalities

Scale of the Research

A key task of the project is the objective reflection of the historical and cultural heritage of all regions of Kyrgyzstan, as well as defining the place of the Kyrgyz people in world civilization.
