President Sadyr Japarov said that in five years Kyrgyzstan's educational institutions will begin the transition from paper textbooks to tablets. The statement was made during a meeting with residents of the Alamudun district, where aspects of reforming the education system were discussed.
Current situation and education reform
During the meeting, issues related to the workload on students were raised: one of the residents noted that the weight of textbooks and backpacks has a negative impact on children's health. Questions concerning the school curriculum itself were also raised.
Measures to update educational materials
The Minister of Education informed that the new textbooks already differ from previous versions with modern content and undergo expert review with the participation of experienced teachers. It was also noted that the weight and quality of these books are checked according to state standards, and some textbooks are divided into two parts.
Financing the reform
President Sadyr Japarov recalled that a reform in the country's education sector has been under way for two years. As part of this reform, an additional 8.5 billion som has been allocated for publishing school textbooks.
