During a meeting with residents of Alamudun district, President Sadyr Japarov spoke about the reasons for the dismissal of Uchkun printing house director Bakytbek Sultanov. According to the President, the reason was that textbooks had begun to be sold at the market.

Measures to ease the academic load and textbooks

The issue of heavy textbooks was raised by Anara Raimkulova, a resident of the village of Baitik, who noted that heavy books can cause health problems in children. In response, the President ordered the Ministry of Education to study the possibility of producing lighter textbooks.

  • Due to the weight of the books, it was decided in primary grades to split textbooks into two parts — by semester.
  • If split, students can leave the books at school and do their homework using online textbooks.

Minister of Education Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva explained that the textbooks fully comply with state standards both in content and in weight, and that their production is impossible without passing four expert reviews. She also mentioned that parents had been forced to buy textbooks because of the critical situation with printing them in the required quantities.
