According to the updated building codes, the construction of monolithic buildings up to 25 stories is permitted in Kyrgyzstan. For objects exceeding this height, special technical specifications (STS) are being developed. This was reported by Astanbek Duysheev, Deputy Director of the State Institute of Seismic Resistant Construction and Engineering Design.

Changes in Building Codes and Requirements for High-Rise Buildings

The number of floors of buildings is determined in accordance with building codes, which depend on the structural system and the seismic characteristics of the region. Astanbek Duysheev, Deputy Director of the State Institute of Seismic Resistant Construction and Engineering Design, noted that the codes were updated based on new research.

  • During the Soviet period, the construction of frame buildings up to 12 stories and monolithic buildings up to 18 stories was permitted
  • Currently, the permissible number of floors for monolithic buildings has been raised to 25 stories

If the planned number of floors exceeds the established norm of 25 stories, the institute is responsible for developing special technical specifications. For example, when constructing a 27-story building, the institute prepares the corresponding STS and provides them to the client, based on which the design is developed and implemented. In such cases, the seismic resistance of the building is assessed according to special technical requirements.
