Experts highlighted that demographic shifts and the redirection of migration flows across Central Asian countries require economies to adapt to new conditions. The EASDF's flagship report, "Economic Growth, Demography and Labor Market: Reality and Challenges," presented these findings.
Labor Market Projections and Economic Growth
The report estimates that the employed population in Kyrgyzstan could grow from 2.7 million to 3.4–3.7 million people by 2040. To support this growth, the economy must create between 700,000 and 1 million jobs.
Indicators of Economic Development
Despite the challenges, Kyrgyzstan is noted as a leader in economic growth rates among the four countries in the region. The country's GDP saw an average annual increase of 10.2% between 2022 and 2025. Furthermore, real wages have risen by 2.2 times, and the poverty rate has decreased from 34% to 24%.
Recommendations for Human Potential Development
Experts suggest that economic transformations are necessary to develop human potential, with a focus on supporting the private sector. Expanding formal employment is identified as a key factor to sustain economic growth.
The labor force is expected to increase by 1.19 million people by 2040, which presents an opportunity for a demographic dividend.
