Kyrgyzstan plans to restore 10,000 hectares of pastures annually

In a country with about 184,000 hectares of degraded pastures, the Ministry of Agriculture intends to carry out land improvement work every year. Under the 2024–2029 program, restoration of 10,000 hectares of pastures is planned each year.

Measures to improve pasture lands

To implement the program, the use of perennial grasses and organic fertilizers for reseeding is planned. In addition, special attention is being paid to infrastructure: repairs are planned for roads and bridges leading to remote pastures, as well as the development of livestock watering sites.

Financing and timelines

The program is designed for the period from 2024 to 2029. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, about 50 million som is allocated from the budget for annual pasture improvement.
