Production capacity has been expanded and new jobs for inmates opened at Institutions No. 1 and No. 27 of the GSIN. These production facilities were set up with the support of private entrepreneurs under agreements concluded with the state enterprise Kelechek under the GSIN.
Expansion of production capacity in the colonies
Sewing, welding and furniture workshops, as well as a stationary concrete unit, have been commissioned at Institution No. 27. The institution already operates a bakery, three welding shops, three sewing shops, a furniture shop and a concrete plant, and around 500 inmates in total are covered by production activity.
Potential employment at Institution No. 27
A workshop producing outdoor electrical equipment — floodlights under the Max Sveto Tekhnika brand — has opened at Colony No. 1. Currently 25 inmates are undergoing training and mastering the production process in a pilot mode. Once the workshop reaches full capacity, it is planned to provide jobs for up to 50 inmates.
According to the GSIN, products made in the colonies are purchased by government agencies, used for the GSIN's own needs and may be sold on the open market. Inmates working in these production facilities will receive wages that they can use to support their families or pay off debts.
Context
Chyngyz Kozhoshev, Chairman of the GSIN, noted that the development of production activity helps increase inmates' motivation.
