At the gala concert of the 10th anniversary "Central Asian Romansiada" in Bishkek, Dmitry Shostakovich's "Overture on Russian and Kyrgyz Folk Themes" was performed. The performance was prepared by the Bishkek City Hall Grand Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Urmat Tentimishov.

History and significance of the work

The work itself was created by Shostakovich in 1963 after his trip to the Kirghiz SSR. The overture was based on two Kyrgyz folk songs and one Russian folk song. In addition, the playing of Kyrgyz komuz players served as inspiration for the composer.

Key premiere dates

It is worth noting that the world premiere of this overture took place on November 2, 1963, in Frunze (now Bishkek). It was performed then by the symphony orchestra of the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet Theater under the direction of Asankan Dzhumakhmatov.

Accompaniment of the event

As part of the anniversary concert dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Russian House in Bishkek, the performance of the overture was complemented by video footage highlighting the history of cultural interaction between Kyrgyzstan and Russia.
