From November 1, Turkey has banned children under 15 from using social media and creating accounts on such platforms. The change applies to both new and existing user accounts.
Access conditions and restrictions for teenagers
The age verification procedure for users with existing accounts has been extended and will remain in effect until March 31, 2027. During this transition period, platform administrations will gradually close accounts belonging to children below the established age.
- To sign in to social media, users must confirm their identity through the state e-Devlet service.
- After successful verification, they will be issued a digital token indicating their age.
- Access to the platforms will be closed to children under 15.
- For teenagers aged 15 to 18, restrictions are envisaged: they will be able to exchange messages only with friends' pages, but will be prohibited from live streaming, as well as from access to adult advertising.
