According to information from Chinese insider Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi is developing such a device. Interestingly, despite the resemblance to foldable phone concepts, the new product will not be a foldable gadget.
Expected design and specifications of the new device
The proportions of the new smartphone are expected to be similar to the outer displays of models such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and iPhone Duo. Although details are still lacking, one possible feature could be a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is more commonly found in foldable phones.
Competitors and market trends
Besides Xiaomi, other manufacturers are also working on similar concepts. For example, Huawei presented the Pura X View, a wide smartphone without a folding function. OPPO is also developing its own version of such a concept, which may be equipped with up to two 200 MP cameras.
In addition, insiders note that by 2027 vivo and Honor also plan to release a wide slab smartphone. According to the insider, the device from Honor will likely imitate a design close to Huawei's.
