As part of strengthening control over goods on the market, the Eurasian Economic Union is introducing digital marking for various types of electrical products. This decision was taken by the EEC Council on Russia's initiative and covers lighting equipment as well as other electrical components.

List of products subject to marking and the identification technology

The unified marking rules cover such product groups as rectifiers and converters, automotive lighting devices, portable flashlights, as well as lamps, LEDs and luminaires. In addition, printed circuits, relays, sockets, connectors, switching apparatus and distribution boards for voltages up to 1000 V are subject to marking.

A two-dimensional Data Matrix barcode with cryptographic protection is used for marking. According to the EEC press service, identification means are generated in accordance with requirements that are common to all states of the Union.

Goals of introducing marking

Marking is primarily about transparency of goods circulation on our market. The more product groups are marked, the less illegal product there is on the market and the more confident honest businesses and buyers feel.
Andrey Slepnev, EEC Minister for Trade

EEC Minister for Trade Andrey Slepnev stressed that for electrical goods, the legality of products is directly linked to the health and safety of citizens. In this regard, the EAEU countries independently determine the date and procedure for introducing marking for each product group, notifying the commission no later than six months in advance.

Context

The decision to introduce unified marking rules is aimed at increasing the transparency of goods circulation and combating illegal products on the EAEU market.
