The changes approved by the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission are aimed at improving the consistency of data in the register of medicines of the Eurasian Economic Union. According to the EEC press service, this will make the registration process more complex but will simplify procurement and the search for information about medicines.

What has changed in the medicine registration procedure

The main innovation is the requirement for applicants to indicate the international nonproprietary name of the active substance of the medicine. The common, grouping and chemical names will also have to be indicated.

What are the implications for the market and procurement

The decision taken by the EEC Council should ensure full consistency of information in the register of registered medicines of the EAEU. This, in turn, will help eliminate discrepancies when selecting medicines for procurement and will make it easier for citizens and pharmaceutical companies to find the information they need.

The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission has supplemented the application form for registration procedures with the requirement to indicate the international nonproprietary name of the active substance of the medicine or its common, grouping and chemical name.
