Kyrgyzstan is considering the possibility of tightening the rules on handling dietary supplements and introducing liability for violations in the area of their advertising. The corresponding bill was prepared by Baktiyar Kalpaev, a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Protecting consumers from low-quality products

The main goal of the document is to shield the public from supplements that have not undergone state registration, as well as from advertising containing inaccurate or manipulative information. According to the drafters, the market in the Kyrgyz Republic has seen a significant increase in the number of dietary supplements, some of which are not registered either in Kyrgyzstan or in other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

  • Products must undergo state registration to be circulated in the EAEU territory
  • In Kyrgyzstan, dietary supplements are registered by the Department of Disease Prevention and State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance under the Ministry of Health
  • Unregistered products do not undergo the established safety assessment procedures, including laboratory testing, which may pose a threat to consumer health

Changes to legislation

The bill provides for amendments to the Code of Offenses and the Law "On Advertising." The document places particular emphasis on regulating the advertising of dietary supplements.

Kyrgyzstan is proposing to strengthen control over the circulation of biologically active supplements (dietary supplements) and to introduce liability for violations of the rules on their advertising.
