The administration of the Madina container market in Bishkek has announced the cessation of trading on the site from November 10. According to the notice received, from that date trading rows A, B, C, D, E and H will be fully closed, along with the Sever-Novyy, Sever-1 and Sever-2 sections, the boutiques under the mosque and the Pakhta row.

Details of the closure and deadlines for tenants

Traders operating at the market must remove all goods and material assets and seal their trading premises by November 20.

Background and earlier statements about the market

Authorities had earlier announced the closure of the Madina market and planned to relocate traders to the Ala-Too bazaar. Those plans sparked protests among traders over high rent and the lack of proper conditions for trading. After complaints from traders, the city hall postponed the closure of the old market and granted additional time.

During the visit, the head of state ordered assistance for traders with the relocation, including transport, and that the process be completed within 10 days. He also proposed exempting traders from rent for the first three months at the new bazaar and then setting minimum rates for six months or a year.
