President Sadyr Zhaparov commented on the potential increase of pensions, noting that with sound management of state resources and economic growth over the last 30 years, the minimum pension level could reach 80 thousand somoms. This statement followed a suggestion from a resident of the Talas region to raise pensions to 15 thousand somoms while simultaneously reducing payouts to former prosecutors receiving higher pensions.
Pension System Overview and Workforce Ratio
Zhaparov highlighted the current demographic challenge in the pension system. He stated that Kyrgyzstan currently has approximately 900 thousand pensioners, while the number of working individuals stands at only 300 thousand people. According to the President, this means that roughly one working person supports three pensioners.
He also provided context on the pension increases, mentioning that five years ago, the payout was around 700 somoms, and the current minimum pension is set at 8,800 somoms. The President assured the public that payouts are increased annually, urging patience for continued improvements.
Judiciary Salary Adjustments
Furthermore, the President addressed the issue of increasing salaries for judges. He explained that the salary hikes are intended to help reduce corruption risks within the country. Zhaparov noted that there are about 450 judges in Kyrgyzstan.
