According to Majid al-Ansari, a spokesperson for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Doha is continuing active work to bring Tehran's and Washington's positions closer together. The parties are currently studying various initiatives and proposals that could help conclude an agreement.
Efforts to prevent escalation and navigation issues
The diplomat stressed that there is a high level of coordination among the leaders of the region's countries in seeking a diplomatic solution. Qatar also issued a statement on the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation, noting that freedom of navigation is non-negotiable and that Doha rejects any threats against oil tankers.
Al-Ansari also emphasized that both parties — Iran and the United States — are demonstrating readiness for a negotiating process. The goal of Qatar's efforts is to reach an agreement that would help restore trust and strengthen peace in the Middle East region.
Additional information on regional security
A four-party meeting on regional stability and security was previously held in Tehran. The participants were senior representatives of Iran, Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, and Islamabad initiated the gathering.
