Supreme Court Chairman Mederbek Satyev, at a collegium on the results of local courts' work over nine months, named several judges whose rulings have a low upheld rate. Satyev stressed that judges serving on the Council of Judges and the Council on Justice Affairs must set an example, and that current figures do not meet that standard.
Judges Whose Rulings Raise Upheld-Rate Concerns
Specific examples were cited during the discussion. Aizhan Ryskulova, a judge of the Bishkek City Court and chair of the Council on Justice Affairs, was also named in connection with low rates. In addition, Satyev named other judges whose rulings will be subject to review.
Ruling Upheld Rates
- Bakyt Satylganov (judge of the Sokuluk District Court, member of the Council on Justice Affairs): 50 percent of his rulings are upheld when reviewed by higher courts
- Azamat Aldashev (chair of the Batken Regional Court and member of the Council of Judges): 42 percent of his rulings are upheld
- Nurzhamal Mamatalieva (judge of the Lenin District Court and member of the Council of Judges): 62 percent of her rulings are upheld
- Nurbek Tadzhibaev (judge of the Issyk-Ata District Court and member of the Council of Judges): the upheld rate of his verdicts is 42 percent
