The Burgondinsky main canal, which has been in operation for about 50 years, requires significant modernization due to its age. The project aims to increase the canal's water throughput capacity and overall length.

Project Scope and Capacity Increases

The initial canal, located in the Ak-Turpaksky ayylayman district of the Kadamzhay district, originally provided both drinking and irrigation water to the Ak-Turpaksky and Moldo-Niyazsky ayylayman districts. It was responsible for supplying irrigation water to approximately 6-7 thousand hectares of land.

18cubic meters per second
30cubic meters per second

The new construction phase is designed to boost the canal's capacity from its previous throughput of 18 cubic meters per second to 30 cubic meters per second. The total length of the canal is set to increase to 49 kilometers after completion. This new length will be divided between the Ak-Turpaksky ayylayman district (24 kilometers) and the Moldo-Niyazsky ayylayman district (25 kilometers).

Project Details and Timeline

The Burgondinsky main canal originated from the Kozhoshken River and was first put into service around 1975. The construction work will proceed in three distinct stages. Financially, the state has allocated 1 billion 579 million soms for the first phase of this project.

Past Incidents

The canal has been associated with past incidents; for instance, a 35-year-old man was reportedly drowned in the Burgondinsky main canal on July 23, 2026, around 12:00. According to local residents, the deceased was attempting to catch livestock swept away by the current in the canal.

  • The canal's operational history dates back to approximately 1975.
  • The project necessitates expanding the canal's capacity and updating its infrastructure after 50 years of use.
