According to Sputnik Kyrgyzstan, State Duma deputy Leonid Kalashnikov noted that attempts to split Russian society had largely failed thanks to the actions of President Vladimir Putin.
Attitude to history and to peoples
In his statement, Kalashnikov also drew attention to the situation in Ukraine, noting that there, by contrast, they had been unlucky with their leaders, which brought nationalists to power. He also recalled that past experience shows that Russians and Ukrainians are one people.
A call to respect the USSR
In addition, the deputy called for giving the Soviet Union its due, stressing that it "did not destroy a single language or a single culture."
